Privacy Policy
The short version
- We use your location to show nearby stores and to confirm you're at a store when you check in. We keep the location of each check-in, not a history of where you go.
- Driving mode runs on your phone. Your location during a drive isn't sent to us.
- Your phone number is only for signing in. Other players never see it.
- We don't sell your data, and the app has no ads or third-party ad or analytics trackers.
- You can download all your data or delete your account from Settings at any time.
Who we are
FuelQuest ("FuelQuest", "we", "us") makes the FuelQuest app for iPhone and Android and runs this website. FuelQuest is an independent app and is not affiliated with Casey's General Stores, Inc. Questions about this policy go to support@fuelquest.app.
What we collect
| Information | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Phone number | When you sign in | To send you a one-time code and keep your account secure. It is stored only in our sign-in system and is never shown on your profile or to other players. |
| Handle and avatar | When you set up your profile | To show you on leaderboards, to friends and next to your reviews. |
| Precise location | While the app is open | To show stores near you and to check that you're at a store when you check in. The app asks for location only while you're using it and never asks for "Always". |
| Check-ins | Each time you check in | We store the store, the time, your coordinates, their accuracy, your distance from the store, and whether your phone reported a simulated location. This is how we award points and keep the game fair. |
| Game progress | As you play | Points, levels, streaks, badges, avatars, passport stamps and your home town (worked out from your favorite store or where you check in most). |
| Reviews and photos | When you rate a store | Your ratings, tags, comment and optional photo are shown publicly on the store's page with your handle. |
| Issue reports and photos | When you report a problem | The problem type, pump number, details and optional photo go to the team at that store so they can fix it. Your report isn't public. |
| Friends | When you add friends | Your friend code, your friends list, requests and honks. |
| Notifications | If you allow notifications | A push token for your device and your notification settings, so we can send the alerts you've turned on. |
| Choices you make | When you accept the terms or change a setting | A record of when you accepted the Terms and when you turned marketing or data sharing on or off. |
| Technical data | When the app talks to our servers | Your IP address, device type and request logs, kept by our hosting provider for security and troubleshooting. |
Driving mode
If you start driving mode, the app keeps using your location while the trip is running, including when you switch to another app, so it can tell you about stores ahead and when you arrive. This happens on your phone. Your location during a drive is not sent to us or stored by us, and the alerts are created on your device. The trip stops when you end it, when you stop moving for a while, or when you turn driving alerts off. Checking in from driving mode works like any other check-in.
What we don't collect
We don't access your contacts, photos (other than the ones you choose to attach), microphone or advertising ID. We don't track your location in the background outside a drive you started in driving mode.
Who can see your information
- Other players can see your handle, avatar, home town, level, points and badges. You appear on leaderboards unless you turn off "Show me on leaderboards" in Settings.
- Your friends can see your check-ins, reviews and badges in their feed, and are told when you check in. Turn off "Share check-ins with friends" to stop this.
- Everyone using the app can see reviews you post, with your handle.
- Store teams see the issue reports for their store.
Service providers
We use a small number of companies to run FuelQuest. They process data on our behalf and only for these purposes:
- Supabase: database, sign-in, photo storage and hosting.
- Twilio: sending the sign-in code to your phone number by text message.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service: delivering notifications.
- Apple Maps (iPhone) and OpenFreeMap (Android): map tiles. They receive your IP address and the part of the map you're viewing.
- Cloudflare: hosting this website and handling email sent to fuelquest.app.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of FuelQuest, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.
Selling, ads and partners
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising. The app shows no ads.
We look at check-in activity in aggregate, for example how busy stores are by hour, to improve FuelQuest. Aggregated statistics don't identify you. We share information about you with a business partner, such as a store chain, only if you turn on data sharing in the app, and we'll tell you what is shared at that point. We send marketing messages only if you opt in. You can change either choice at any time.
Your choices
- Location: turn it off in your phone's settings. You can still browse stores, but you can't check in.
- Notifications: turn each type on or off in Settings, set quiet hours, or turn them off in your phone's settings.
- Visibility: hide yourself from leaderboards and stop sharing check-ins with friends in Settings.
- Download your data: Settings → Download my data saves everything we store about your account as a file.
- Delete your account: Settings → Delete account. See Delete your account for details and how to ask by email.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, we immediately delete your profile, check-ins, points, streaks, badges, reviews, issue reports, friends and notifications. Photos you attached are removed from storage within 30 days. Our hosting provider keeps routine server logs and backups for a limited period before they are overwritten. Aggregated statistics that don't identify you may be kept.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and access to it is limited by account. Every check-in, point and badge is checked by our servers, and other players can only see what's described above. No system is perfectly secure, so please tell us at support@fuelquest.app if you find a problem.
Children
FuelQuest is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. You can do most of this in the app. For anything else, email support@fuelquest.app from any address and tell us your FuelQuest handle. We'll verify the request and reply within 30 days. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
FuelQuest is run from the United States, and your information is stored and processed there.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll let you know in the app before it takes effect.
